Changes to the ‘Future of Work have been happening rapidly over the last 25 years. However, the next decade is going to see an unprecedented impact because of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology. Many organisations are busy trying to understand how they can leverage digital disruption for business profitability and customer engagement. Very few have understood that it will create a significant disruption in the employee lifecycle and that challenges around attracting and retaining talent will increase. Those that have read about it are not sure how soon this will happen and whether it is more myth than reality. Add to this the challenges of ‘Next Gen’ employees and trends such as the gig economy and business leaders are realising they need to do something fast to be prepared for big change.
The Human Capital Digital Innovation Hub is one of the ways in which corporates are trying to understand experiment, engage and understand digital disruption to the workplace and employees. It is a four way partnership among a sponsor (which is corporate), a participant ( which is the startup), a host (who is an accelerator) and a program manager ( the – The HR TECH Partnership).
The participating corporate sometimes has a strategic intent behind participating – example either understanding ‘agile working’ or learning a new impactful technology like Blockchain. Often this approach is used to solve an immediate operational issue -example how can we improve diversity in our talent pipeline or offer employees an engaging wellness product. It is also being utilised by HR service providers( recruitment firms, talent consultancies, benefits providers) to experiment with potential additions to their product portfolio. The key advantage for a corporate is the ability to source great start-ups disrupting the workplace, get closer to them with minimal risk and optimise the time/effort needed to manage the process. The start-up involved has a unique opportunity to work with a corporate without going in-house ( and getting sucked by the corporate’s demands). Being housed in an accelerator provides both parties the advantages of a larger digital innovation ecosystem.
Forward looking organisations have started realising that they need to get active around learning and engaging with HR start-ups and the Human Capital Digital Innovation Hub is a great way for them to make a start.
The London based HR Tech Partnership runs a Human Capital Digital Innovation Hub to facilitate learning and adoption by corporates of agile start-ups around Talent and Workplace productivity. It also has a People Tech investment venture which funds early stage start-ups incorporating AI and leading edge technology. The team and most of its stakeholders have senior corporate experience and a good understanding of large organisation realities.
